Telegraph nominated for 25 Press Awards

Shortlisted accolades include Specialist Reporter, Website and App and Front Page of the Year for the first day of The Lockdown Files

The Telegraph has been shortlisted for 25 accolades at this year’s Press Awards.
Journalists nominated for awards include associate editors Gordon Rayner and Camilla Tominey, and political editor Ben Riley-Smith.
Tominey has been nominated for Specialist Reporter of the Year for her coverage of the Royal Family, which “trounced her rivals when it came to telling readers what was really going on behind palace gates”.
Rayner has been shortlisted for News Reporter of the Year after breaking the Nigel Farage de-banking scandal at Coutts, leading to the eventual resignation of Alison Rose, the NatWest chief executive.
Riley-Smith has been nominated for Political Journalist of the Year for stories that “broke new ground in important areas of political journalism”.
Isabel Oakeshott has been shortlisted for the same award for her work on The Telegraph’s Lockdown Files investigation, which revealed more than 100,000 WhatsApp messages relating to ministers’ decisions during the Covid pandemic.
The Telegraph has also been shortlisted for both Website of the Year and App of the Year, after winning the accolade for News Website of the Year at the 2023 Press Awards.
Feature writer Mick Brown and columnists Fraser Nelson and Allison Pearson have also been shortlisted for awards in their categories.
Nataliya Vasilyeva has been nominated for Foreign Reporter of the Year and James Titcomb for Science and Technology Journalist of the Year.
Elsewhere, Chris Leadbeater was nominated for Travel Journalist of the Year and Jeremy Wilson for the Hugh McIlvanney Award for Sports Journalist of the Year.
Jessamy Calkin and Oliver Brown were both shortlisted for Interviewer of the Year and Matt for Cartoonist of the Year.
Telegraph photographers Heathcliff O’Malley and Simon Townsley have been nominated for Photographer of the Year.
O’Malley has been a photographer for The Telegraph for 25 years and has covered the wars and conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo and Ukraine.
Townsley has been nominated for his work for the Global Health team over the past year, documenting assignments in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey and those most impacted by the Covid pandemic in the UK.
The newspaper was also shortlisted for Podcast of the Year for Ukraine: The Latest and Supplement of the Year for The Telegraph Magazine.
Telegraph Women’s Sport has been shortlisted for the award for achieving Excellence in Diversity. The Telegraph is also nominated for both Daily and Sunday newspaper of the year.
Finally, The Telegraph was nominated for the Front Page of the Year for the first day of the Lockdown Files and the paper’s decision to publish a warning from the Israeli government accompanying a graphic photo of a child murdered in the Oct 7 massacre by Hamas.
The Press Awards will be held on the evening of April 18.
